7yo wants to learn to crochet - any advice?

Hi all.

DD is 7 and generally good at crafts, though she didn't get on with knitting.

She saw a MNer's gorgeous blanket on Facebook and is now determined that she wants to learn crochet. (And I haven't even shown her the amigurumi another MNer makes....)

I have too many crafts on the go already (knitting, spinning, quilting) so I am not too keen to learn myself and teach her, wonderful as I'm sure crochet is. So my questions are:

-is this something a 7yo might be able to learn from a book/kit/online tutorials, without much adult input?
-how hard is it?
-any recommendations for good books/starter kits?
-any general advice for starting off?

yes she can it's dead easy.

stitch patterns make it look like gobbeldygook, but you just need to learn basic stitches (single, double, treble, running stitches) and off you go.

you already have a basic knowledge of needles and wool and tension etc as you can knit, so I think you should give it a go.

I can't knit, tried, but it stresses me out, find crocheting a doodle.

go on Ebay for needles and books or local shops/ library.

practice stitches first by making squares or rectangles or a scarf

Amigurumi is great fun, but you need to get familiar with stitches first.

I learnt crochet a few months ago, first attempt was a baby hat that I made up as I went along. it's gorgeous and had loads of lovely comments!
some people were gushing so much about it, forget to mention how gorgeous baby was/is!

I did buy a good book with easy to follow steps and drawing, give a day or to I'll get back to you with details
