Pencil rolls?

Hi everyone, I would really like to make the children I know pencil rolls for Christmas but I am a real novice (even my sewing machine sewing is not very straight) so does anyone have any words of wisdom?
Also, does anyone know of any lovely looking but inexpensive felts tips to go in them?
Thanks.

Here's my tutorial for crayons - just adjust the length for pens.

As for tips - draw your lines (or at least start and finish points) for the pockets to help make your lines straight, or use fabric with stripes that you can use as straight lines, for the pocket cover. I use bog standard chalk but you can use special sewing pens if you're fancy :)

Cut your fabrics straight to start off with and the sewing for hemming and seams etc is easy as you use the edge of the fabric as a guide.

Trim corners to keep them pointy.

Give them a go - you'd be surprised at how easy they are. :)
