I put this question in parenting but maybe i should have asked it here. I want to entertain ds on this wet day by making playdough. I have salt, flour and food colouring (and olive oil cooking oil if needed). What else do I need and now what do I do to make the playdough please? Also, plain or self-raising flour?

Thanks

You also need cream of tartar.

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1 tbsp salt
1tbsp oil
1 tbsp cream of tartar
food colouring

Heat it all together in a saucepan on a gentle/hedium heat until you get the right consistency.

Sorry, that should be 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar, plus I use about 3/4 of a cup of water.

Have fun!

Plain flour and you definitely need the cream of tartat. You will find it next to the baking powder and bicarb in the baking aisle. It's not expensive.
I microwave mine with frequent stirring cos I am too lazy to clean out a suacepan!

I always used one cup salt to three flour and use glycerine- avaliable from chemist, then add food colouring! Add enough water to make into a dough.
You can also bake this in a low heated oven until hard and when cool you can paint it.
The playdough doesn't need glycerine but makes it easy to mould into shapes and better if you're going to bake and paint it.

I don't even bother cooking it! If you use boiling water you can just mix dry ingredients in a large bowl, then add water and colouring, mix then knead when cool enough to handle.
