Bun has alopecia - how can i help

In 2002 (courtesy of lleyton hewitt winning Wimbledon) Bun came to live with us as i had picked his name on a Asthma win a bear competition. He used to sleep with DS1 but now has been inherited by DS2.
Being so loved has started to take its toll on poor old Bun and he now has quite a few bald patches. Does anyone have any idas on how to treat this and perhaps any ideas as to how to stop it getting worse? An impassioned plea on behalf of my 6 year old......

Knit a jumper for him? would keep him warm, and stop anymore fur rubbing off

Yes, i had thought of that but convincing ds2 is the tough gig here. I just wonder whether there is anyway i can do a fluffy darn?

You could give it a try, but you'd have to get a blinking good match wool wise if hes classically bear coloured. Worth experimenting though, if the jumper idea won't work.
Oh dear, i'm not being much help really, i'm a sewer, you need a good knitter here with a vast knowledge of yarn to point you in the right direction

You might be able to find a yarn to darn with, but depending on what type of fur he has, it could prove difficult.

All I can suggest is to stitch patches over any threadbare bits, like the Tatty Teddy bears. A jumper is a good idea I think, or pyjamas maybe.

Our dinosaur is maroon plush and now has matching patches.

My teddy was darned and darned. Eventually he wore matching red jersey and hat, and at sometime after that he was put into furry bear overalls so he could work in the arctic without getting cold ( he was a polar bear with red velvet paws).

He now has a new back in grey fleece but think i need to add more. The fleece is very soft so he is a hit!
