Blanket for My5boysandme - support for knitters

All our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of baby Dexter, and most particularly with his mum, My5boysandme.

The chat thread has given details of the yarns and pointed to the Crafters' Guide. I will check back to our last support thread for any newer patterns that haven't yet made it up there.

Please stop by if there is any help you need with your square - the crocheters are regular guest stars as well (it's a bit like NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles).

No deadline as yet for the squares, although we usually allow 3 ish weeks, so no huge rush Smile

Flojo1979 · 13/10/2012 22:44

Good job because I haven't got my wool yet! Hoping it'll arrive on Monday.

trumpton · 14/10/2012 01:40

Wool ordered if it arrives before we go away I will take it and knit . If not I will be home on 23rd and knitting fast !

Flojo - you were asking about patterns on the main thread and you've been directed to the guide. Chinese waves is a great starter pattern but a more challenging but lovely pattern (the photos don't do it justice) is Waves of Love. The sailing boat square is nice although you'd need to have quite a tight gauge to do this in a 6" square as I couldn't reduce it to less than 40 stitches.

There are also some nice plain and essential patterns here. (Don't think we link to these on the guide already, do we Trib?).

Though do watch the sizing where they specify exact number of stitches. As the guide says so well, everyone is very different.

I'm making a granny square with dk, just done the 6th square/round of treble crochet stitches and it measures 5.75 inches (25 stitches). Another round of trebles will take it to about 6.5 inches (31 stitches). Should I start again with a smaller hook size?

KnottyLocks · 15/10/2012 20:32

Happy, it's actually better for us if it's slightly smaller rather than 6.5".

It'll stretch to 6" once it's all hooked together. And if it doesn't, we can add a round of Dc or Htr at this end.

No need to start again!

HappyTurquoise · 15/10/2012 20:58

Oh that's good, thank you Knotty! Will tie off and do some more. :)

Hello!
I know I'm a bit late to the party but would love to knit a few squares if volunteers are still needed? It is such a lovely idea that I would be proud to be a part of xx

KnottyLocks · 16/10/2012 14:39

Sonnyd, can you PM Pistey to let her know? Thanks for joining us Smile

Flojo1979 · 16/10/2012 17:33

Wool has arrived today! Going to get stuck in later.

HaveToWearHeels · 16/10/2012 20:03

evening all, I am hoping to finish my 6th square this evening, found a good website that details different stitches. It gives instructions for 6in squares but some are on other weight wools rather than DK so will need to be adapted.

I have loved doing this, while knitting them my thoughts have been with My5 and her family.

workhouse · 17/10/2012 11:06

My wool arrived this morning from Cucumberpatch, its Debbie Bliss in the lovely Apple shade (popular I think) and Duck egg blue. So soft.

Thanks for all the square ideas on this thread, I think I will do a simple block and a more fancy one, at least, hpefully more.

GlaikitFizZombie · 17/10/2012 22:10

hmm, I've delved into one.of.my.knitting books and started a square called lambs tails.

one round in and it looks like a row of willies!

is.there a call for squares covered in little willies? :o

KnottyLocks · 17/10/2012 22:41

Um no Fizzy Hmm

KnottyLocks · 17/10/2012 22:42
