My dd has a sewing machine and would like to make something simple using a pattern. What would you recommend as her first, simple thing to make. Thanks

How old is she? She could make a very simple tote bag or maybe a pillow case?

Is 8 but we have been practicing and she actually seems quite capable Smile where can I get patterns from?

How about an apron? There are lots of different sites that sell patterns just have a look on the net you might even find a free one? I had a hand powered one when I was little and I am glad I was taught now making clothes for my new babySmile

I learned to sew as a DC myself using THIS old book of soft toys, lots of good ideas that kids want to make, starting from the very simple up to pretty complicated, the toys in there now are fashionable again & my own 10 yr old DD loves the book & has used it to make quite a few things as gifts herself over the last few years.

It even shows you how to make basic patterns - eg a Cat - use 1 big & 1 small plate or bowl to mark the main head & body & add triangles for ears & a tail - set me off not being afraid of trying pattern making too, which with hindsight was a good moveGrin
