Technical but elementary jewellery question.

I have a lovely necklace that I bought in holiday in Florence. It has three thin wires held together by a single simple clasp and each wire has a square of Murano glass strung on it. Purely sentimental value of course.

Unfortunately two of the wires got caught in the hinges of my jewellery box and permanently deformed which makes it unwearable.

So the question is, where do I get new wires to string the glass beads onto? And how do I attach them to a clasp?

Any brilliant ideas from you cunning crafters please?

You need beading thread (it's like wire, but nylon coated)

You then need two crimp beads (one for each end) and two jump rings. Recycle the lobster clasp from your necklace.

Open a jump ring with pliers. Put the lobster clasp on. Close the jump ring.

You cut the beading thread to the length you want, plus a bit more.

Thread your beads on.

At one end, thread all if the beading thread through the crimp, the jump ring, then back through the crimp so the ring is held in a loop.

Squash the crimp bead flat and cut off the excess thread.

At the other end, repeat the process with a crimp bead and the jump ring attached to the lobster clasp.

That should do it :)

Oh thank you - that's just what I need, full of appropriate previously-unknowm technical terms that I can now google or look for in shops.

If you're googling the thread some people call it tiger tail (you'd want the 7 strand one), or beadalon is a brand name. Unless it's a hobby you want to continue you could find a local bead shop and go there - they'd probably lend you the tools and sell you the little bits you need to complete the job...
