adapting knitting pattern to make a round neck instead of v neck

planning to make this for ds when the wool arrives but he wants a round neck not v neck. Ordinarily I think I could do this but having a panic - haven't knitted much for a few years and am currently slightly brain challenged as having chemo (which is why I want a nice project).

any advice? Wondered about using instructions for neck from different rowan pattern that uses same wool ?

Hi OTM what a gorgeous sweater.

I think adapting to a round neck will be fairly straightforward, a round neck pattern in the same wool would probably be helpful, but basically it's not a really deep V, so I think you could just come up a bit further with the cable down the front (maybe one more section of pattern than for the v neck) then take the neck edging cable right the way round, incorporating the central section of stitches at the front into the cable. (So your neck cable goes all the way round IYSWIM).

You might have to calculate how to centre the cable pattern on the number of stitches you will have at the neck, - but I think that will be the only slightly complicated bit.

I hope that makes some sort of sense - photos please when you've finished it, so we can admire

hi kurri! thanks - i actually thought about this last night while sleepless (although very tired, how does that work?) and came up with similar approach.

might do it all up to taking cable one section higher and then post pics and let you advise at that point!

i've been doing some knitting recently after huge gap - done elbow length fingerless gloves for dd and fairly easily adapted that pattern for her but the very very simple v neck thing i'm doing for myself at the moment has stumped me - the shaping for the V on the rib trim for neck seemed really complicated and i ripped it out 3 times before doing it my own way!

Ooh yes - I'd love to see pics. OTM - I'll try to advise, although I'm no expert, - but I daresay between us we can work something out
