Love the owls!

I have come for technical advice.

Doing a normal granny, going to try the htc edging. Maybe one or two rounds of it. What does one do in the corners? Is it just htc htc chain chain htc htc?

Hi, I'm new to Mumsnet, and I am a crochet addict beginner. So far, I've made a couple of daisies and about 300 granny squares which I'm currently joining together to make a massive blanket. But then what do I do with it? After all the expense and work and time, I can't put it on the sofa...Someone might sit on it!

Hey Turquoise, glad you found your way here Smile

I've done my htc corner and it was as you say easy

SoupDragon · 11/10/2012 17:12

you drape it artfully over the arm of the sofa and hiss at anyone who goes near it.

Put it on the bed? That's a helluva size though, how big are your squares?

Trust your Aunty Pidjie, Pistey, she knows

At the moment I am so far away from any blanket being made that I just plan to just sling the balls of stylecraft onto my sofa....

It is going to be big. Beyond that, I haven't really worked it out. Squares are about 10 cm...there will be 17 by 20, and crochet in between of about another 3/4 cm... so bigger than 2 metres by 2.5...I just started buying up all the colours I love in merino, and cotton, and acrylics (and they make yarn out of bamboo and soya now, I never knew!) I'm a bit allergic itchy when it comes to wool, and it's been so great to be able to get my hands on some other yarns in healthy colours. (When I was first interested in crochet, every time I went into a wool shop, all they had was acrylics in such insipid colours, I wanted to hurl, which was a bit off putting.)

You'll find that very hard to wrangle. I'm working on one 7'x5' and it's hard to shift - washing will be fun too, although with your mix of fibres i assume it'll be sponge dab only!

I have a large charity shop one and I think it's a mix of fibres - I didn't give it a thought, bunged it in at 40 several times and it's fine.

I imagine that if you wash it according to the most delicate of the yarns it'll be OK.

This one is going to be washable at 30/delicate and I have another one planned which will be washable at 40. I wanted it big enough to cover our biggest sofa, or bed or our bulky futon. I didn't think about them being pulled about when sat on. Might have a rethink about making the next one as big!

Hello all
Sorry I've not been very chatty recently. I've kind of lost my crochet mojo. But I've just done another yarn bomb which will hopefully help break me out of it.

Hello HappyTurquoise btw, I got your PM, I promise to respond to it soon so you can be part of the next one.

Thanks DillyTante.

Suggestions for a new square please.

I can do a granny and a solid granny. What could I realistically try next?!

Circle into square - you can test my tiger/dragon/teddy instructions that i wrote for Nickel on the mini hugs thread (iirc) if you like?

Anyone made Amigurami? I'm a beginner and like the look of them, but are they more advanced than I am, do you think?

Love that owl blanket Soupy! It's gone straight onto my ravellry list, for when I'm good enough to try somthing that advanced!
