You can check in but you can never leave...

OP posts:

I have 10'6" of squares left to join for MrsY's, then I'm meeting Pistey on Wednesday to tackle edging - 12' each.

I never do anything that big for myself! Baby cardies and quick cowls all the way [hblush]

Somersaults · 26/10/2012 21:20

That little circles necklace is lovely!

aJumpedUpPantryGirl · 26/10/2012 21:24

Pastabee, your square looks lovely.

Pastabee · 26/10/2012 22:32

Thanks ajumped. I've just made a second and I think I've got it cracked now. I think I like crochet better than knitting. It seems as though mistakes are immediately obvious and easy to correct. I hate undoing rows of knitting because it's taken a while for a mistake to appear.

Checking in on this cold and wintry morning.

Been up with the baby for a few hours so continued with the nativity. Joseph's head is considerably bigger than Mary's at the mo. Goodness knows what I've done there.

Not really used to this fiddly hooking. Just been a blanket and cushion covers til now.

ZombieArmsDragOnTheFloor · 27/10/2012 08:40

His wife has just given birth to the son of god - of course he has a big head!

theodora · 27/10/2012 14:06

Oh Pidj, that post about rescuing squares and not wasting any brought a lump to my throat and made me feel that I should have a go. I've been waiting til I felt more confident, but I think I could do some squares or a small blanket. Do we send the little hugs and refuge blankets to the same place? Could you let me know who I need to PM please. Am also in awe of the work that you organisers are putting in - thank you x x

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 27/10/2012 14:09

You should. Skill has bugger all to do with Woolly Hugs; fancy patterns are merely a way for the more experienced to put as much effort in as the beginners.

PM RatherBeOnThePiste, she'll induct you [hwink]

theodora · 27/10/2012 14:47

Thanks Pidj, have PMd her. How do Personal Messages work? Do they come to your email?
Thanks x

ZombieArmsDragOnTheFloor · 27/10/2012 15:11

There's a little envelope at the top of the screen ^ assuming you're not on a phone. If is it yellow, you have mail :)

theodora · 27/10/2012 15:39

Thanks Zombie, will go to full site as am on phone Smile

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 27/10/2012 15:43

It should also email you with a link :)

MrsY's blanket is complete, and I've done 6 whole inches of the 24' border [hhmm]

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/10/2012 17:14

If anyone is interested, the Glasgow woolly huggers are meeting on monday - details on this thread - please do come!

Zwitterion · 27/10/2012 18:06

Arf Zombie that must be it!

Trazzletoes · 27/10/2012 19:44

Hello! I'm taking my first steps on the yellow brick road of crochet. Am going to attempt my first granny square tonight over-optimistic

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 27/10/2012 19:53

[hgrin] You're in now, addiction is the next inevitable step!

Somersaults · 27/10/2012 20:25

Oh that's definitely the next step. I've picked up my knitting needles once and only once since I learned to crochet.

Trazzletoes · 27/10/2012 21:42

I've fallen at the first hurdle. 5 ch (I get that...) [counts as 1 tr and a 2-ch sp] WTAF?! Don't even get me started on the next assortment of letters!

Trazzletoes · 27/10/2012 21:44

pistey is definitely a [hsmile] if she thinks this is easier than a straight line!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/10/2012 21:47

I find granny squares quite fiddly Trazzle, a square of rows of treble or double is much easier.

Pastabee · 27/10/2012 21:47

Have you looked on YouTube trazzle? That's how I worked it out. Granny squares are repetitive using only a few stitches so you won't need a written pattern once you've worked it out.

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 27/10/2012 21:49

Ch means chain. Tr = treble - yarn over hook, through, yarn over, back through, yarn over, through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, through remaining 2 loops on hook.

Grannies are worked in "shells" or "clusters" of 3 trebles with chains in between. Your instructions are telling you to work the final stitch of a cluster plus the linking chains (ch 5, counts as 1 tr and ch 2 space) before beginning the next. Your clusters will be worked in the "ch 2 space".

Gives a neat join, but is pretty over-complicated for a beginner!

Trazzletoes · 27/10/2012 21:55

Thanks all . Will check out YouTube tomorrow.

Somersaults · 27/10/2012 21:55

Trazzle I found this picture tutorial an absolute godsend when I was learning to crochet.

Somersaults · 27/10/2012 21:57

Ok, what is back post double crochet?! I've found a beautiful pattern for my next square but I've never heard of this before!
