Making an Easter Hat for school parade - HELP!

I never the thought the day would arrive, but here it is....and I'm starting a thread in the Arts and Crafts section!

I've just been informed that on 29 March there will be an Easter Bonnet Parade at dd's school, so all children are being asked to pitch up in a made-at-home Easter hat/cap....or they may also wear an animal mask.

I am the least crafty person I know, so don't know where to begin! Help please!!! DD is 5, by the way.....

hard to explain how to make a bonnet shape. there must be a web site.
Or buy a cheap straw hat from a charity shop and decorate it with loads of tissue paper flowes. Good luck!

Earlybird - there's another thread on this - can't do links (sorry - must learn) but was active this morning...

I haven't seen the other thread.

Last year, we made a wide-brimmed hat out of cardboard, and decorated it with stickers, Easter chicks etc etc.

This year, we've found a fire helmet in the back room, and will somehow put paper on it so DS1 can draw on it.

Beware: some of the other kids will have absolutely incredible stuff that they never got to touch until they got to school, the day of the parade.
