I intend on giving my lo's a craft box full of bits and pieces they can use over the xmas holidays in our flat when it's too dark/wet/cold/etc to go outside.

I need items which are 1 year old friendly e.g. they can ingest without getting sick, don't destroy clothes (water based and easily washable), can be cleaned off walls, couches, me.

I'm looking for:

  • glue
  • paint
  • paper
  • paint brushes, pots, etc
  • straws
  • pipe cleaners

Any other ideas are welcome.

Where is the best place to buys these so you get more for your money?

The Works
Home Bargains
Wilkinsons (but The W and HB are cheaper)
ELC - I havent lived near one for years so not sure even if they still exist!

Rolls of old wallpaper, available for pence from charity shops, are really cheap and useful, using plain side.

Suggest plastic tablecloth to put down, whatever craft's being enjoyed, and yoghurt pots have many uses.

I did a box like this for my niece. Got most of it from HobbyCraft. If you have one nearby and can pop in regularly, you will see they always seem to have a "reduced stock" table, so you can buy stuff cheaper.

It's sometimes things that are out of season but (a) they'll keep and (b) one year old's don't care about halloween colours in the spring (for example!)

If you are still looking, I see Lidl has good deals on craft stuff this week.

Play doh (Argos and WHSmith)
Sponges (Superdrug, poundland) with finger paint (ELC)
Sidewalk chalk (Baker Ross)
Junk modelling from your recycling box - empty yogurt pots, loo rolls, milk bottles, milk lids
Cork (use felt to make ears and string for a tail)
Scraps of paper and fabrics to glue to junk modelling

Sorry, I meant to say the cork to make mice
