Paper mâché

Hi, ds has made a paper mâché model for school, we've made it with a flour and water mix and it honks. I've not done this before and can't believe how much it smells! Now it's not due to be handed in for another 2 weeks. Those in the know, will the smell go away or will it get worse? If worse is there anything I can do to make it smell any better?

It will get worse! You should use wallpaper paste. If you think it can take it, you could try varnishing it. It will get mouldy you see.

Oh no I'm gutted for ds. Luckily we have time. Will get dh to get some wallpaper paste tomorrow and I will make a new one. Ds is asd and will go mad if he has to do it all over again, bless him.
I just went into the room it's hanging in and it is worse Sad

The smell will get worse and it will probably start growing stuff soon!

We use watered down PVA for ours

Can you not attempt to Varnish it? Or paint it with PVA glue...you know how that dries clear....like a skin

Take it into school early?

Maybe only if you don't like the teacher ...!

Grin teacher is lovely and I've already started model two, this time with wallpaper paste. Thanks for all the help Smile
