Ideas for revamping old coat

Hi there, I have an old black raincoat that I like enough to want to keep but I want to update it a bit. It is plain black with horrible silver buttons so I'm going to replace those. The main thing is that at the end of the sleeves there is ribbed black stretchy wool that goes around the wrists, it's all bobbly and horrible, does anyone have any ideas how to make this look better?

You could bind the cuffs in a nicer fabric. Kind of like bias binding but on a larger scale. You can make your own bias binding and you could choose a fabric and make the bias a bit wider than usual.

With the buttons, pick a contrasting colour and replace them.

how to make bias binding I would read a couple of tutorials and then just have a go!

Or you could just take it off & replace it with some new, none bobbled cuffs, you can buy it most places, known as "Cuffing" or sometimes "Ribbing" & black is easy to come by

or if you really want to jazz it up & bring it up to date - you could make a skin print edging for the cuffs, of say 4cm wide - use a good quality cloth such as the fake short pile furs, the ones that do look like skin prints & come in everything from snow leopard to tiger - use cover buttons in the same trim, & make some sort of a matching corsage to finish it off & maybe a half back belt depending on the cut of the coat

When I got gloss paint on similar cuff, I took them off and turned inside-out, which looked like new.
