I havent knitted anything for a while but quite fancy having a go at something for Autumn. I would really like to do a plain tunic in a fairly fine yarn.

Where is a good place to look for a pattern? I looked at laughing hens but there is so much to look through..

Oh I'd start with Ravelry every time - if you haven't used it before it's an amazing repository of patterns. www.ravelry.com

The other one I use reliably is Knitting Pattern Central - www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory.php if only cos I LOVE trawling through hunners of patterns!

I know you want something in a fine yarn but if it's been a while since you've knitted, you might find it takes a long time to get anywhere. As a starter project something in a chunky might be more motivating?

You might be right there, or I might never finish it..

I've been thinking about doing Lady of the Lake - not quite what you were looking for, but I would take a look at the DROPS designs on Rav for a few ideas.
