Did anyone else buy Sew Hip magazine?

Used to buy this but haven't seen it for ages. Am quite used to magazines disappearing from here (Scotland) but is it still on sale in England or has the mag gone bye bye?

Really liked the projects as well.

I think Sew Hip is still available, I saw it recently in a w h smiths

chaosisawayoflife · 25/08/2012 20:58

It has changed names, I think its now called simply sewing.

There's a lot of gossip about this on Ravelry - there has been a lot of problems with the publisher I think. Put it this way, I wouldn't buy a subscription and it seems the employees may not have been treated ever so well.

Lots on twitter too. I've stopped buying it.

TwoIfBySea · 25/08/2012 21:55

Ah, that explains it. Yes, could be worse, could have a sub and no maga\ine to show for it!

Thanks all.

in short -
The original owners went bust, the magazines titles that they held were bought by another company. That company kept the knitting & crochet titles but sold the sewing related ones on. The company that bought the sewing related magazines have very dubious links back to the original owner and she has managed to do this more than once!

And yes it has changed its name to simply sewing but not sure how good it is as many bloggers are now very wary of doing projects for them in account of previous samples going missing and non-payments.

TwoIfBySea · 29/08/2012 16:46

Yes, I Googled the owner after this thread and it is really odd that someone can do this time and time again. This woman who appears on all the forums has done some really low down things. Not in the crafting spirit I'd say!

Does the same women (or her husband's company) still own Inside Crochet then?

GetOutMyPub · 30/08/2012 17:28

DillyTanta I dont believe so, the knitting/crochet mags were bought by a company with no known links to Kerrie Allman/All craft media, the sewing titles were then sold on to a new company formed before the original one went bust and is in the name of one of KA's relatives.

if you are on Ravelry there are lots of posts about it,

I only know because I have a subscribtion to Modern Quilting and have followed the story on The Sewing Directory blog/FB and various blogs that I follow that submitted work/time and were forced to speak out.
