anyone any good at designing knitting patterns?

I've volunteered to repair a knitted dolly that my mum used to play with when she was little. She thinks it used to belong to her mum, which would make it about 80 years old!

It's a long-legged rag doll type of thing - was naked, bald & holey when I got it! I've given it new hair & patched it up but I can't find a pattern for a dress that would fit anywhere & i'm not clued up enough to adapt or write one myself.

Can anyone help?

Have you tried looking on Ravelry (google it - it's a knitters website with thousands of free patterns and pics of them made up). I'm pretty sure there are some on there as I was looking to make clothes for Sock Monkey a couple of weeks ago (don't ask!).

Thanks for the reply foad (does that stand for what I think it does, ha ha!)

I have tried ravelry but it's all barbie & American girl (?) dolls' dresses. This doll is a completely different size & shape Confused

...well you wouldn't want a naked sock monkey now would you??

What size is she? Ysolda League has a knitted rag doll in her

Ooops...book Whimsical Little Knits and her dress might fit? Or try Alan Dart's website. He does knitted toys and might have something adaptable? I've got some knitting mags I can look through for you as well as I'm sure I have something somewhere that might work.

Thanks Daisy, that's very kind of you. Will measure up when I get a minute, I'd put photos up if I knew how to on my phone (laptop is broken).

Right, i've downloaded the Bella Bear pattern from the Alan Dart website, I'm hoping that it will be roughly the right size if I make the skirt a bit longer - wish me luck!

Good Luck! And don't forget to post a few pics. I'd love to see such an old knitted doll :)

Thanks Smile

It's a tiny bit creepy to be honest but my mum loves it!
