I am due a baby on Christmas Day!!!!!

I want some funky hats, the crocheted, knitted type sort of like this
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CROCHET-PLAIT-EARFLAP-HAT-FOR-NEWBORN-BABY-PHOTO-PROP-/400315330853?pt=UK_Baby_Girls&var=&hash=item5d34a73125#ht_544wt_1166
or this

does anyone here make and sell this sort of thing??

Am more than happy to pay for them, but thought Id ask here in case anyone has a little business,

I can't click on your links but I'll take a look properly when I get on my laptop. Smile

bloodyfurious · 15/08/2012 20:51

hat 1
hat 2
hat 3

might help if they were proper links, I was think that I could have then a crocheted flower or something, to stitch on in a girl colour/boy colour as i dont know what it is and it is due over Christmas so the chance of me getting what I want quickly once born is slim

Can I just check something? The seller of those hats recommends that they aren't for everyday wear. Are you wanting a funky hat for cute photos or do you want something more practical?

I've looked on Ravelry and there are lots of patterns for these types of hats including a Santa hat with pompons that hang down from the ear flaps. So cute Smile

Would it be possible for you to have a look on Ravelry and let me know if there are any that you like in particular. I searched using "crochet beanie" and then narrowing down by "free patterns" and "age-baby".

Fab I'm on my mobile now - so I'll look in the morning from laptop.

Those are just ideas - I want them for photos but also as it is a winter baby I want some so when we are out and about over Christmas/New Year baby has some nice warm but cute and funky hats.

I'm a bit of a hippy at heart :).

Something like this is much more practical and less of a choking hazard.

And yes, happy to take commissions :)

bloodyfurious · 15/08/2012 21:45

That's lovely - but I want tasselled or flaps.

Dh thinks I am mad.

That would work colourwise hat in red and black and a stick on ladybird for if it's a girl.

Thanks both will look at that site in morning.

I meant the general shape - the very long tails on the ones linked to are the impractical bit.

I'm due early December (boy) and am making close fitting beanie shapes - got a plan for one with little antlers but not sure yet if it'll work! I might do the pixie shape i linked to in red with a white border and pompom on the tip...

Earflaps can be added with no hassle

TheWoollybacksWife · 15/08/2012 21:58

Pidj the Santa hat on Ravelry is gorgeous. The large pompons on the ear flaps could be scaled down a bit.

orangeandlemons · 15/08/2012 22:06

Sorryabout this, but asan ex babyweardesigner I would avoid anything with tassles/pompoms etc on ear flaps. Verydangerous and not allowed to be sold in British shops, as there are lots of safety regulations about this.

Sorry x

orangeandlemons · 15/08/2012 22:08

Have just looked on those ebay links. 2 of those hats are breaking the law.

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2012 22:08

I would do pompoms on top, and popcorn stitch elsewhere

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2012 22:10

This shape gives good scope for either tassels or big pompoms without compromising safety :)

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2012 22:12

Thanks, orangesandlemons, i wouldn't have known it was an actual law! I just use common sense (and don't really do much selling)

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 15/08/2012 22:16

That must be why they are saying 'photo prop' in the listings. I'm not made about them myself, but there are some very cute knitted hats in Itty Bitty Hats

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2012 22:25

I'm pretty sure the amigurumi i do would need to be labelled "decorative" if i sold it - or rigorously tested to some kind of standard Confused
