Needles, Needles, Needles...

I am Patchwork quilting. Literally from scraps, so everything from thickish denim to very thin polyester.
Only got my first ever sewing machine 5 months ago so still on big learning curve.
I've been using 80/14 needles for EVERYTHING in my ignorance.
Should I continue to just use 80/14 universal tip, they seem okay (but I have broken a few, which is why I now need to buy more), or should I be more selective, do you suppose? Maybe get 70/12 for general sewing & patchwork, & 90/16 for actual machine quilting? All still with universal tips? WWYD?

Thanks in advance :).

I usually use 80 for the piecing and 90 for the quilting. However, a denim needle might be more appropriate if you are sewing through denim.

Ooh, thanks for reply. I went ahead & bought some 80s for general stuff & a pack of multi size to try for other things. Shop lady seemed to think that 80 should usually do most things. :)
