Picture Stepping Stone

I am wanting to make a stepping stone, using some family pictures. Is there anyway to prevent the picture from fading?? (besides the obvious of not putting it outside)

keeping it out of direct sunlight will help the image last longer. Couple of coats of varnish. I've been using a spraycote one, a couple of coats give a good even finish.
