I have some money to spend on a new machine. I would love one that sews letters and fancier things, but don't think i want an embroidery machine. Or do I? not sure.. I'm a bit lost in the world of sewing machines.....any experts out there who can advise?

Tia

depends on how much money you have to spend and what else you want it to do really.

Second hand Bernina 5 or 8 series if you can find one for the price, failing that go for a second hand Janome.

Honestly, you need a stand alone embroidery machine, not a sewing machine that does letters. I have both, and the difference in quality is unreal....i never use the letters on my sewing machine now as its just not in the same league as what I can do on my embroidery machine.

I use Janome machines for all of my sewing. I have a MC4900 as my main machine (think its the 5900 now) and a 300e embroidery machine which i bought second hand.

I had wondered if it was worth having two machines.... I will look into the machines you mention.

Had spotted Janome memory craft 350e in john lewis. It has a raving review. Any opions on it?

Apologise for hijacking thread but if You wanted to do single colour school badge on for example jumpers and polo shirts what machine would you need? How difficult are they to replicate?
Does anyone do this?
