Anyone made their own swimsuit?

If you have, what fabric did you use? And, more importantly, where on earth did you buy it?

Also, any tips or tricks for sewing with it?

Www.fabricland.co.uk sell loads of suitable fabrics. If you've not used the site before it can be a bit surreal, but they're a great company to deal with.
I've not sewn with it before but I guess the usual for stretchy fabrics, ballpoint needle and a stretch stitch would work

Yes, made several for DD over the years & I bought from my local Fabricland too, so can second that being a good place for the cloth.

you do need a ball point needles as mentioned above & you also need this ?.
Elastic here - though try & get a 6mm one, the one in the link is a bit wide - Fabric land sell this too & you slot it into all your hems -

I overlock it around the edge, easing it slightly as I go & then fold the hem back & zig zag it whilst pulling it flat as I go - IYSWIM

any normal knitted lycra fabric is fine, as long as your elastic is good.

my mum has done it to better success without a proper elastic-sewing-in machine.

I think the pattern she used was from simplicity.
