Has anyone used RIT fabric dye? Do i need a fixative?

Am working on a tie dye project but I want to use a teal colour which dylon don't make but RIT do.

Have found various instructions on the web, many of which say cold water washable only and some refer to using a fixative afterwards...which RIT do make.

Does anyone have any experience. I'm going to ring dylon to see if they have any guidance on mixing as I would rather use what I am familiar with but feel more confident on colour results with RIT as it (should) be as advertised.

Does it have to be entirely teal. As I have found dylon colours overlap and turn a turquoise/teal colour.

I am just going to check as I thought the turquoise or aqua was available still, you can either add more or less colour to get a different shade, may need sampling.

You can mix, but there may be uneven colour tone, but that may not be a problem if it's tie dye.

Yes has to be teal. Their bahama blue is too much of an aqua. I have used that shade before so know it isn't what I want.

I called Dylon and they couldn't offer mixing advice as I was thinking about mixing a blue with a green.

I also emailed RIT and seem to have a satisfactory reply, and also works out cheaper so I am going to go with that.

Never used RIT as I prefer Procion dyes, you always need to use a fixative or mordant when dyeing to open the fibers of the fabric.

Hmm...I like the look of procion but there are complaints that the teal is a bit green and a bit dark...
