Yarn shops near Penicuik or Edinburgh

I'm going to be on holiday next week near Penicuik / Edinburgh and I was hoping to visit a yarn shop to pick up some supplies. I was thinking of some lovely wool for winter socks perhaps. Does anyone have a recommendation for wool shops in that area?
I've heard of McAree's in Edinburgh but given that I'll be in an area known for its cashmere / mills etc I was wondering if there was somewhere out of town that I could go for a browse?
Thanks
Thanks

Hobbycraft??

Wow - fast reply! I've not come across Hobbycraft before (there isn't one where I live) but it looks as though there's one in Livingston and also on the outskirts of Edinburgh so that could definitely be an option. Thanks!

There's one at Fort Kinnaird, near the city bypass. Smile

And from the website, it looks as though I could stock up on all sorts of things while I'm there. Great.

I've not been, but I think there's a nice independent yarn shop on Victoria street near the Grassmarket in town. Hobbycraft is useful but a bit soulless I find.

If you were looking to venture further afield there is a wonderful yarn shop called the wooly brew in pittenweem which is in fife. A bit of a trek though!

coldcomfortheart from googling, I think it's k1yarns? I posted this on Mumsnet local for Edinburgh as well and someone recommended k1yarns. It looks gorgeous on its website so I think it's worth a look!
cupcake unfortunately I'm not likely to get over to Pittenweem which is a shame because the Woolly Brew website looks like it's a shop with a lovely feel to it.
Thanks for all your suggestions. Thanks

Yes that's the one. Enjoy- I was in Edinburgh today for a rare visit and was itching to get to all the lovely wee shops but with two tiny children in tow it was get the bare minimum and get out! Oh for my time rich student days...

have a lovely holiday!

Be warned about Hobbycraft. You will spend aaaaages in there looking at all the lovely things you don't need or know how to use and your purse will be much much lighter when you leave. It's addictive but great fun! And definitely worth getting Dh & Ds occupied elsewhere or they'll spoil your fun by making you hurry. Grin
