aaaaarrrrrgggghhhh magic ring

have been trying to do the magic ring technique (i'm crocheting baby bear hats in chunky wool), and cannot do it. does anyone know of a good tutorial? How long did it take you to get the hang of it? HELP ME PLEASE!

Ok, it's a cliché, but don't overthink it. You're basically making a loop of yarn, and then doing a single crochet around the bit where the two ends overlap to fasten it together.

Ok, it is like doing a slip knot, but before you pull the knot tight you are crocheting into the circle. Are you chaining before you start to crochet? Some patterns don't but you might find it easier if you add a ch2 before you start.
