Woolyhugs™ Question.

I have just been tidying up and have been making a list of the blankets we have been part of since we started ( it's called diplacement activity ). I think we have made 13 woolies for families and some garlands for Cupof tea plus 2 blankets for raffle fundraisers. Not forgetting the fabric quilt for Eggy and family.

I think that's right but if anyone thinks different let me know. Will be happy to do it thro PMs if it feels better rather than listing them here. Although we are all very proud of the WoollyHugs? it feels a bit strange to list them all here.

I would love to see a list. The first blanket I was involved with was OJ's (that was done in cotton) but I know there were others before that.

trumpton · 02/07/2012 11:13

The first blanket I knitted for was for Edgar's son Leo . That was in December 2010 but it looks that you go back further than me. If you think it appropriate I can list them here.

The first blanket I did, and the first I remember being "commissioned" was for YorkieGirl - IIRC she had two, one knitted, one quilt.

SoupDragon · 02/07/2012 11:48

That would have been around 2006 because I made my square with fleece left over from making a sling for BabyDragon.

trumpton · 02/07/2012 20:42

So we think the first was 2006 and how many altogether ? Certainly 13 since December 2010.

Its all here on the official woolyhug website

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 14:28

I don't think it is all there at all.

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 04/07/2012 14:50

Well there are 13 on there for MNers, plus the two raffle ones.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 15:54

Only the recent ones are there. The concept of a MN Blanket has been around much longer.

trumpton · 04/07/2012 18:33

I do think it would be good if somewhere on the Woolyhug site we could mention all the blankets if only by number rather than MN name. I only became aware of them in December 2010 and had not realised that the wonderful hugs went further back until ^ Soupy ^^ said.

I'll let Pistey and Knotty know about this thread - they run the web-site and are the WoolyHug officials...

KnottyLocks · 04/07/2012 18:46

We don't have a definitive answer. Sorry Smile

The hugs have been around for quite a while. The website was initially created to gather together the hugs we had photos of.

There have also been blankets organised and made by groups off the boards too.

Trumpton, although the numbering idea is an interesting one, it's tricky to say what number we are actually on. Smile

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 18:46

It was definitely 2006. After much searching of the MN archives, however, it was organised via email so YG didn't see it. To my knowledge, this was the first project.

The Official Woolly Hug thing started off with me Blush, PixieOnALeaf (who was outed in rl and had to leave the forum) and MissPenteuth in Feb 11 when Edgar lost Leo and Rinders lost her DH in such quick succession. I asked for 60 squares for Edgar and received 153, it made sense to make for such loved and supportive posters.

Then Blondes lost her dh and I had leftover wool and squares, plus all the lovely MNers wanting to support her, so it made sense to keep going. Spares from that made the raffle blanket (still trying to iron out licencing details!)

I made the mistake of posting Edgar's to MissP supposedly in time to be handed over at a meet. We spent a lovely weekend frantically phoning round depots to locate it Hmm and Pistey offered to coordinate the logistics from then on. RL had started interfering by then (and i had to turn down a couple of requests, which absolutely breaks my heart every time - but we can't make a blanket for every person who posts in bereavement Sad) and lovely Knotty offered to take on construction in September (WTW, Magic, Cheese, Anthony Nolan) and we're now taking turns to keep the pressure off.

It's the consistency of organisation that has made the Woolly Hugs as they are now such a phenomenon. There were previous blankets, but no one person knows how many or who they were for, which is a shame as we can't put them on the website without permission.

If we had any info on previous ones, I'm sure they'd be included :)

PurplePidjin · 07/07/2012 12:44

Oops, sorry, major essay Blush

KnottyLocks · 07/07/2012 14:36

I took on the admin when Pixie felt she couldn't continue, with Edgar's.

PurplePidjin · 07/07/2012 16:11

Ah, I was in a woolly tangle by that point and just immensely grateful to have some help fielding enquiries! Thanks

trumpton · 07/07/2012 17:52

Ah thank you for the information and Sad about another blanket to be made.

PurplePidjin · 07/07/2012 18:03

It helps me remember, i can be very forgetful about details Sad

trumpton · 07/07/2012 19:58

So I hope this I have this correct :-
Edgar
Rinders
Blondes
Raffle
WTW
Magic
Cheese
Antony Nolan
Cuppa
Chipmonkey
Wubbly
MrsK
MrsY
Greengoose
Matilda
And sadly a new blanket for Mumof.

I know I have knitted for all these blankets and also the knitted bunting for CuppaBea.

I just thought it would be good to have a list and to say thank you [thank] to all you wonderful co-ordinators and hookers. You do a marvelous job.

I had a thread once with a list of all the contributors, i think we were up to 400 and something?

Odmedod · 07/07/2012 20:13

Didn't bundle have the first blanket??? Way before oj...

KnottyLocks · 07/07/2012 20:15

I think we're nearer to the thousand mark now tbh Smile

PurplePidjin · 07/07/2012 22:11

Odmedod, I'd love to know! It'd be great to know if the blanket provided comfort, if they still use it now etc

Time for another count up, Knots?

SoupDragon · 07/07/2012 22:22

I don't remember Bundle having one - but I couldn't crochet back then so probably didn't pay any attention.
