Which will be easiest to make - an astronaut, the sun, a star a planet - or something else - and can you give me some advice on how to make it? It needs to be about 30cm long. TIA.

Papier Mâché planet?

Depends how quick you need it for though?

Thanks Carpe. Don't need it until Monday. How would I go about making a papier mache planet? (Very impressed you know how to type the accents!)

T'is a very smart smart phone Grin

Have a look here for instructions.

I did them with Brownies many years ago - they did the mâché one week and the painting the next.

With a very smart and helpful owner!

Thanks again. Do you think leaving it overnight would be sufficient as suggested in the website you recommended?

We made a solar system model - cornflakes packet with front panel hacked off, paint black inside, add stars as necessary.

Appropriately sized polystyrene balls (Hobbycraft) painted planet-y colours and dangled from strings in correct order.

I found that they were fine overnight if done in the morning - when doing it with Brownies, we were mâché-ing (is that a word?! Grin) in the evening, so it was ready about 24 hours later rather than the morning.

This was them sitting on a dining table in the winter with heating on though - I don't know how it would work in the summer.

Thanks Boulevard. Sounds like a great idea but as a novice at this I think I'll start with 1 planet as dd is only in reception but will remember this for future projects - which seem to come up with alarmingly regularity!

Thanks again Carpe. Will report back as to how I get on!

Reporting back. We made a sort of planet from papier mache. The shape was more like the World Cupy trophy than a planet but it at least didn't collapse and the teachers were able to hang it up! There were lots of impressive looking spaceships which I was looking at and trying to think how I could replicate. Thanks again for your suggestions carpe and Boulevard. .
