crochet help needed

Hi All. I am a basic crocheter. I learned by being shown basic stitches and have made scarves and blankets.

Unfortunately, i am one of those 'visual learners' - can pick most things up if shown but cannot for the life of me follow written instructions (nothing makes any sense!).

So, now i'm about to go on Mat leave and would very much like to crochet some bits for the impending grubling.

I have googled patterns and seen a few tutorials on you tube. But was wondering if anyone could point me to some easy to follow tutorials, patterns or advice?

I really just need to sit down with someone and 'feel' what i am doing iykwim.

Have you tried looking on YouTube? There are lots of videos on there, although most of them seem to be American, so the stitch names are different. I can sympathise as I am the complete opposite, I really struggle to learn things from videos and learn far better from written instructions and diagrams, I tried to learn crochet from YouTube but had to go and find a website with drawings instead.

Sorry, you said you had tried YouTube, I didn't read that very well. Ignore me!

Why not go to your local woolshop and see if they might be able to help you? The lady in ours is often sat at a table working with people, even if they can't do that they may well be able to help you find someone who can.
