Want to make a pair of coasters for a craft competition but out of what?

The competition is open to anyone - a pair of coasters made from anything. Was thinking originally of natural wooden discs nicely sanded and waxed but think this might be a bit predictable. Next thought was marbled fimo.

Would love to hear your suggestions as I'm a crafting novice!

Fimo would work. I might be tempted to try weaving/plaiting something. Or felt?

..but TBH your original idea would be lovely too - with the right wood, nicely done.

I was thinking felt too. Very forgiving, won't fray or wrinkle and easy to sew through or glue.

What about something like this

Or I found this with all sorts of different ways of making them.

I like the woven button one on that second link.

That second link was fab Bertha, loads to choose from but I also like the button idea and simple instructions are exactly what I need!
