Any one made a blind (roller or roman) before - is it very hard?!

Looking to match my oil cloth with my window blind material.

I've found fabric and oilcloth, now I need to decide whether to pay someone to do it, or whether to be brave and do it myself...

I made a couple of roller blinds in the days BC (before children) using a kit from John Lewis and it was pretty easy.

I made roman blinds for a bay window. Total pain to do and the wretched things never worked properly. However, I am supremely cackhanded at sewing, so don't let it out you off!

Thanks blue champers. I too am cack handed thebossofme, that's why I'm in two minds. It would have to be a ruler blind if I dared to do it...

Bluechampers- did you use fabric stiffner? My issue is that I don't have the right cutting materials. Think that will make making it dubious...

Would it be shambolic if I bought a white thin blind and glued or stitched my fabric on top? Is that really pony?!

I don't want a roman blind, as i just want to dress the window in a clean style, without blocking much light or destracting from the window framework.

I made a roller blind out of an old curtain and piece of blackout material, with garden canes for the rods. It was a smallish window and heavyish cotton fabric but pretty easy - I had another blind to copy the basic layout though rather than trying from memory or anything...

Could you buy a white blind and stick on/applique shapes from your fabric? then it would at least look like you meant to stick bits on rather than just fudging it too much?

Thanks plip. I want it to match with my oil cloth, so hence why I'm considering adding fabric to a pre existing blind.
