I'm not sure what this type of fabric is called so I don't know how to search for it...

...and I'm hoping if I describe it someone can help me! Smile

It's a fairly sturdy fabric with furry tufts all over - a bit like pipe cleaners with the wire taken out, or thick chenille, maybe an inch or so long. Like a load of caterpillars have set up home on a piece of cloth. I've seen it used for bathmats, car cleaning sponges, those 'crazy' hats that ravers used to wear in the 1990s......any ideas?

If anyone can link me to something that sounds promising, or tell me what this fabric is called, or where I can get strange and funky fabrics from, I'd be very grateful. Grin

Thanks!!

www.alibaba.com/product-gs/322024213/Microfiber_shaggy_fabric.html this sort of thing?

magpieC · 07/05/2012 20:34

If it's what I think you mean then google "micro fiber chenille" (sorry am on phone)

ToryLovell · 07/05/2012 22:18

This kind of thing?

tribpot · 07/05/2012 22:34

God I hope you're planning to bring back the crazy 90s rave hats, OP! Aciiiiiid! Grin

hellymelly · 07/05/2012 22:39

Do you mean candlewick?

CuppaTeaJanice · 08/05/2012 07:53

Yes!!!!!! Grin That's it exactly, UniS and ToryLovell!! Thankyou!

I don't really need 1000kg of the stuff though, just a few pieces!!

I thought it would be quite cool to use as applique on childrens clothes, or maybe the lining of a hood. Or toys? Or I could make myself a crazy rave suit, with a jumpsuit and hat, grab some glowsticks and go and dance in a field just outside the M25!! Grin

I think candlewick's a bit more subtle and old fashioned - my gran used to have candlewick bedspreads!

Ok, off to find some small quantities of 'micro fibre chenille'.......if anyone spots any anywhere, please let me know!

I'm struggling to find any.....

Lots of car wash mitts and cushions on ebay, which I suppose I could unpick, but no actual fabric unless I buy 1000kg of the same colour and ship it from China!!

Google isn't helping.

Any ideas?
