... my new sewing machine.

It is staring at me, wanting to be stroked.

Ooh, do you already know how to use one? I bought one 2 months ago, friend spent nearly 3 hours teaching me how to use it. Now one of my favourite possessions!

SoupDragon · 06/05/2012 10:04

I know how to use a sewing machine. Just not this one. I am a little frightened of it TBH :o

I figure the basics can't be too different to my hold basic machine so I shall ease myself in gently.

But it is shiny and new! I must not sully it with thread Shock

I will finally be able to make my recycled jeans quilt though - my old machine wasn't up to the job.

Don't be like me-had brand new over locker for two years before I was brave enough to use it. You can do it Smile

LatteLady · 07/05/2012 10:20

I want to come and play... I want to embroider hearts, let me... let me... pretty please :)

SoupDragon · 07/05/2012 11:10

I am going to attempt to hem my kitchen curtains. It's only been 10 years since I bought them

Would it be wrong to hem them with the heart stitch??

OMG! It has a needle threader [swoon]

Alternatively you could stroke it gently, remind it where the litter tray is & admonish not to jump on on the sofa. Wink

SoupDragon · 07/05/2012 11:47

I think I love it more than my children - it's so quiet.

Oh Soupy, I bought the exact same model two months ago. Isnt it brilliant!! I cant believe how much I love it. Like you say, its so so quiet, and the stitiching is quite exquisite.

I think you absolutely MUST hem your curtains with little hearts! I m just timewasting on MN for ten minutes while I have a mug of coffee, then its straight back to my Janome.

DorothyGherkins · 07/05/2012 12:03

Did the nice lady in the shop show you how to set it up? Tension on A for automatic, so you need never play with the tension again?

SoupDragon · 07/05/2012 12:52

There was no nice lady in the shop - I ordered it online from John Lewis and had it delivered to my local store (which unfortunately has no sewing department, only furnishing fabric).

It appears to be already set at A.

At least something is set at A. :)

I wimped out and hemmed the curtain in bog standard straight. I may try out the hearts later with blue thread in the top...

Ah yes, I m sure that you must be already be set at A then (to the right where it says Janome?) The nice lady I saw in John Lewis said you need never change it, it automatically adjusts to whatever you are sewing at present requires. I think a lot of bovver from previous machines came from the tension not being correct. This one has been a dream to use, and the usual problems of the stitch being too tight, or too loose, have been non existent. The nice lady also showed me how to use the automatic needle threader, but said to be very very gentle with it, as it can break easily. So with that in mind, and being a bit ham fisted, I ve chosen to thread it manually! Yes, come on, hearts with blue thread on top, you know you want to!

SoupDragon · 07/05/2012 13:26

I love the needle threader because I struggle to thread them manually. I am going to try the hearts on the part of the curtain I cut off... :o
