Dd is wanting to make a submerged greek town, with sand and stones and water. As I imagine the water will spill everywhere I was wondering whether I could get some fake water which would set solid, or fairly solid. What would I need to google?

i would say you could get gelatine and mix that with water and it would set like jelly and be clearish like water?

That sounds quite easy, I guess I could add salt to help preserve it a bit. I was thinking of something less perishable, she gets quite attached to her projects! Not sure how long I want submerged greek town hanging around might mean it gets more priority in show + share box too!

What about those weird water crystals some people use with flowers and plants? It should give it fluidity, and then maybe she could put some iridescent paper over the top to give it the watery effect? Confused

I know when people are making clear broth type things for dolls houses, they use a clear polymer clay like Translucent Liquid Sculpey, or clear Fimo. Don't know if that'd be any use. It bakes hard like the clay does.

I think this is the stuff. Fimo transparent gel. People who make model railways often use clear acrylic wax (floor wax) to make water.

Actually, though, thinking about it, floral setting resin might be best. It's designed to cure when deeper than most resins, and it simulates water, so it's really really clear.

The floral setting resin looks really good. Had a quick google but had to stop when dh was coming it seems quite pricey will have to sneak it into the house will look at the fimo now. Thought maybe sandpaper on base, might be less fiddly than sand. She has now said she wants to put diver in too, not sure if will get away with picture, or will need to find minifigure. Could get pricey, esp when dd1 gets in on the act. Don't know where she gets her ideas from!
