Your favourite crochet pattern for a baby blanket?

My grandmother made a blanket for my mother when she had children, and I used the same blanket for my babies. Unfortunately I don't have the pattern, and since my grandmother was a bit of a demon on the old hook, I don't fancy my chances at trying to wing it and copy it without the security of a pattern!

A friend is expecting her first baby in six months time, and I'd love to crochet her a baby blanket. Do any of you have a favourite crochet pattern for a baby blanket that you would be happy to direct me to let me pore over?
Many thanks in advance Smile

When I was a child I had a large granny square blanket (i.e. one giant granny square).

Other patterns I love are the Attic24 Granny Stripe and the Neat Ripple too.

If you're a member on Ravelry.com there are loads of patterns. There's some gorgeous non-square ones if you want something a bit different.

I'm currently doing an Attic24 "ripple" blanket (but a big one, not a baby one) I think it would look gorgeous as a baby blanket.

Do you have a photo of your blanket?

I did this in pink and white for a friend's baby.

Ooo, Soupdragon, that looks lovely, and I can imagine it would be beautiful in pink and white!

Thank you all for your suggestions, they are really helpful.

I recently made a small version of the Attic24 ripple blanket and enjoyed doing it, but whilst I really like it, it's not lacy in the way my grandmother's was. Still, I'm not fast and if it means it actually gets done on time, it could be a big advantage!!

I don't have a photo of my grandmother's blanket am hopeless at uploading photos, but I can try and get one.

Have a look at Nicky Trench's Cute and Easy Crochet books. There's quite a few baby blankets in there, including the ripple, a lovely flower embellished one and one with hearts on in different colours. (gorgeous).

If it's lacy you want, there are patterns for lacy scarves which could easily be adapted to become a blanket.

PS I got the books from Amazon, they were a lot cheaper than shop price and I got supersaver delivery too, was only £8 somethinh each I think per book for stacks of patterns.

Thank you Serenity; I took a quick peek, and it's a book I've being trying to resist buying for a while! You have just given me a good excuse to get it! Grin
