Does anybody know if john Lewis sewing machines are any good?

I'm looking to replace my old singer and I've seen a couple of john Lewis machines that look good. Anybody got one too?

It was the JL 300 and the JL 250.

If not those then what other makes would you recommend? I don't need fancy stitching but I do need a machine that will cope with a large variety of fabrics.

Thanks

Go and talk to the demonstraters at JLP, they are brilliant. I spent a couple of hours chatting with them and trying out machines, before going away to make a decision. Their after care is second to none... and yes, those machines are good, however it will depend on which fabrics you want to work with.

My dd has the mini one. I know that is not the sort of machine you are after but we have found it great. Hopefully that means that they are all well made.

I think they are badged from other manufacturers. A lot of the machine parts are common to most machines. At the recent sewing show I discovered that several names are really one company with different marketing arms.

Having said that, JLP machines are good value for money. Just avoid cheap needles.
