I've already done her some sunflowers and she wanted another pic of flowers so I did poppies. I hope she likes it? I'm not too sure myself but I'm always very critical Grin

Have a look it's the only pic on my profile. Any comments will be taken without tears! Wink

Oh and the main reason I did them is she's given me lots of art stuff and also is going into hospital very soon. She has such poor health Sad

I think it is wonderful! Well done

roguepixie · 19/04/2012 15:33

Absolutely lovely. You are very talented.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/04/2012 15:37

I love the way you have made the centres of the flowers all textured.

Avid amateur painter myself - can I ask if you painted from life or a photo or from memory? Acrylics or oils? (don't think it's watercolour) and on canvas? How long did it take you? Do you do sketches first, pencil outline on canvas or jump right in with the paints?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/04/2012 15:37

Oh and she will love it!

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 19/04/2012 15:38

I think it's lovely. :)

CuriousMama · 19/04/2012 15:41

Thanks Smile

I posted it on FB as I always put my latest pics and someone asked if it's for sale Grin So I'm doing them one and taking it to them tomorrow. No one asked to buy any of the others I did but a few asked me to do them one. Also my friends and family have pics up on their walls. I have lots stuck in boxes at homeWink I was really really crap at art at school. The art teacher once asked me if I was taking the piss??? Shock

Hearts I did it from memory in acrylics and didn't sketch just painted with the brush. I do water too but am better with acrylics.

Oh it took just under an hour and is on canvas board.

It's beautiful. I'm amazed that you painted it from memory.

I need a person or a photograph in front of me at least.

Hope she likes it, I'm sure she will Smile

CuriousMama · 19/04/2012 19:31

I usually need a pic too but found this easy. Maybe because poppies are quite a simple flower?

Have to do another one tomorrow and take it to the other lady Smile Hope this one only takes an hour but think it'll take a bit longer?

You're very quick. I started the one on my profile about 6 weeks ago, did a lot of it in a day and thought, hmm, that was fast! but since then I've been going over it and adjusting bits and getting the detail down, and it's nowhere NEAR finished. The one at the bottom has taken me 7 years of procrastination and only recently done anything more to it...again, never going to be finished I don't think Smile

I don't know how people do pictures to order, I would be a trembling wreck Grin

I still think you're well clever to paint so realistically from memory. Envy

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/04/2012 21:31

Thanks for answering my inquisition Curiousmama, another one here seriously impressed about your painting from memory! I definitely need a photo or something in front of me!

CuriousMama · 20/04/2012 09:55

Wow Flightty you're magnificent!! The detail in your portraits is amazing. I love the one of you. Hope you get your dp finished too? Wink Do you use oils or acrylics? Looks like oils?

I'm not nervous about painting to order. I think it's because I wouldn't be offended if they don't like it. Art's so personal. I've done a few for friends and family. I even attempted to do one for a friend of the church where she got married. I did that one in watercolour and I'm not even very good at water??? I just felt it needed a softness to it. Anyway turned out ok, they were happy. Plus I didn't have to buy her a birthday present just painted it Wink I did her an angel calender for Christmas and she kept the pic and framed that too. Saves me cash Grin

Hearts I don't usually do from memory. I attempted roses once from memory just looked like a load of blobs Grin

Thankyou....it's oils yes. I used to use acrylics but got frustrated with the flatness, hard to get any depth unless you're doing it on white cardboard etc when there is that luminescence.

Plus oils stay wet for longer, ha Smile which is good when you only get the right frame of mind once every couple of days.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 20/04/2012 14:15

Flightty those are amazing. I struggle with faces but yours have just captured so much of the personality. I love paintings where you feel like you almost know the person just from the painting. Seriously impressed!

Flightty · 20/04/2012 14:22

Thankyou Blush the thing is it would be much harder for a stranger...the fact he is in my head all the time makes it far easier than just working from a photo. iykwim? Someone you're not very familiar with would be more difficult to capture.

CuriousMama · 20/04/2012 15:23

Oh I did the boys once they looked like the kids from flowers in the attic Grin
