I'm going to be taking part in a jelly roll race in about 2 weeks time, eek! Has anyone ever done this before? Any tips?! I need another project like a hole in the head.

Have been fawning over lots of lovely lovely jelly rolls for ages, need to decide on one and actually get it :o

This sounds really interesting. Have you a link to the race?

RueDeWakening · 14/04/2012 17:44

There's a Facebook group for it here.

Or there's a YouTube tutorial .

Or an actual race, condensed into about 3 minutes .

It looks like fun, at least I hope so!

This seems like great fun. I am definately going to join in!

Wow! They look great! I have loads of 2.5inch strips left over from my latest project, so will have a go at making one of these.

Have fun! Grin

Have you done the race yet? How did it go?

Inspired by this thread I've just bought a jelly roll and I'm going to have a go one I've finished my crochet blanket. DD1 is going to have a hell of a lot of homemade things to take to Uni Grin.

If anyone's interested this is the fabric. As a complete novice I went onto ebay and had a look for pretty colours.

PurpleFrog · 30/04/2012 13:25

I have visions of this being like a cheese rolling race.....

(P.S. I do know what a jelly roll is! Grin )

I've raced! I've uploaded a pictute to my profile

Its's lovely. How long did it take ?

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/04/2012 22:44

That's really pretty! Lovely colours

Is the fabric plain or does it have a small pattern?

And now what are you going to do with it?! You are going to back it and quilt it aren't you?

dizzyday07 · 30/04/2012 23:54

It took me about 3 hours from starting to sew the strips together (42 of them) to it being finished but I wasn't going hell for leather.

Some of the fabrics are plain and most of the others have a circular pattern on - I've uploaded another pic to my profile.

I am going to back it in something bright (not sure what yet) and I'm going to give it to some friends of ours.

RueDeWakening · 01/05/2012 22:37

It took me about 1 1/2 hrs from sewing strips together, I really enjoyed it! I stuck a pic of my quilt top on my profile.

I've got another jelly roll with boy & girl kids patterns in, I'm going to make my new baby neice a little quilt for her cot with the girly patterns, then use the other bits to make one for DS. Addictive much? :o

They are both gorgeous and with lovely fabrics.Smile

I really must have a go at one of those.

Problem is I would probably knock together the quilt top in 2 or 3 hours and then it would languish in the cupboard for years a while because I couldn't get my finger and baste the thing together and quilt it. Blush
