i have trawled the internet for hours (i have just quit smoking so need to be constantly doing something or i will die!) looking for a tutorial on how to make a dress from a maxi skirt. but there is only one, and its a wierd kimono style dress, which im sure would look lovely in a different fabric but my skirt is grey with velvety bits. its a proper nice skirt and i want a dress made from it!

anyone know of any tutorials? or better, a way to make a nice dress! i am pretty good at sewing, not like a pro or anything but i can probably make a dress.

Is it a straight piece of fabric or is it tiered?

If its straight, this is probably the simplest you can get, just make it longer to make it a dress, rather than a top?

ooh thats a nice top MadameMessy!

Its a flared skirt, so the bottom is very wide, and if i cut off the waistband the top of it might be as wide as that. So theres a fair bit of fabric, i was hoping to find a pattern that means if i cut off the bottom 2 feet of the skirt, i can use the remaining skirt as the bottom of the dress and the excess to make the top.

Although looking for top tutorials and making them longer is a splendid idea!
