I want to knit a blanket for dd!
I have lots of needles from a charity shop, and have been practicing using you Tube videos and super cheap charity shop wool, and I want to start knitting squares, and then turning them into a blanket for dd (she intends to help, and make some squares herself). I have learnt a few things that seem to make a nice pattern, and I think i can learn more as I make the squares (adding in other colours for a strip, and maybe adding little knitted flowers as she has a floral name)
Firstly - any advice will be very welcome, as I am quite in the dark, and new to the whole crafting thing, but I really have the bug, and want to buy a sewing machine soon too.
Secondly - a nice wool to make blankets with? Not too expensive, and machine washable? I have been looking around, but it all means nothing to me as I don't have any experience!
Thanks so much!

On the question of wool, the mumsnet blankets are made from Debbie bliss cashmerino dk and rowan cash soft dk (neither being the baby versions). I don't know about the washing, but they're a dream to knit with, and come in scrummy colours. As for the blanket-check the blanket picture thread. Blanket inspiration of the most gorgeous kind.

Ooh-but those yarns are pricey. Bargains on eBay though. And it'll be an heirloom....

Lets hope dd thinks it will be an heirloom Grin

Thanks - I Will have a look at the thread!
