What's the easiest way to dye eggs?

Last year we used some dye I bought from Lidl's but haven't been in there recently.

Which is another way we could dye our eggs?

Crap old saucepan, food colouring in the water, hard boil

Or boil then get stuck in with the felt tip pens once they're cool if you want patterns

If you add a table spoon or so of vinegar you get a really intense colour.

Don't then leave them in the vinegary water till the morning, the surface of the shell starts to go powdery.

Or you can drizzle some melted wax on them first, batik style, so there will be undyed areas. I seem to remember that onions work as a dye too?
