Recommendations for a patchwork book?

Hi,

My dd1 is 12 and wants to make a patchwork quilt ( her best friend is making one ).

Until recently I'd have researched it and pitched in, but I've been very ill and have lost the use of my hands for delicate stuff ( ptretty much anything but one finger iPad typing).

So dd1 is going to have to go it alone with me looking over her shoulder!

Any recommendations for a beginners book she could understand and use alone as well as with me "helping"?

Is she planning to machine or handsew? If machine, this one is good.

I have a lot of books, though I'm not sure how easy they would be for a 12 year old to follow, I struggle myself by times. Have you considered getting her to join a quilting guild? you could phone your local guild and see if anyone could give her some assistance. Their website is here. They may be able to suggest books or suggest classes that she might attend.

I have this one which just about covers every techinique any quilter would need to know. It is a lovely book.

This one is very good too and is often recommended on beginners courses.

This one is part of a series but also covers pretty much everything. It is not as big and beautiful as the first two I linked to but it is still pretty good.

The other alternatives are Youtube and also quiliting magazines. Some of the magazines go into more details than others but they do often have beginners quilts to have a go at with instructions.

Actually, I got 3 Fabric Quilts for Mothers' Day and whilst it isn't a 'how to' book specifically the fact that all the quilts only require 3 different fabrics and quite simple blocks makes it very simple for a beginner. It also has some instructions on getting started if you are new to quilting and worth a look.
