Vogue Sewing pattern sizing?

Are the Vogue sewing pattern sizes true to what it says on the website? It is making me a 14 at 36-28-38 (their measurements) Shock, I've never been a 14 in my life. Also, how easy is it to adjust the waist as my waist is a bit smaller that what they've calculated? Can you tell I haven't done this before? Any help appreciated.

I think they are true to the measurements on the back of the packet, so am pretty sure that they will be the same on the internet. These are sizes from about the 1950s: unlike high street shops Vogue sewing patterns haven't changed sizes much over time.

When it comes to adjusting the waist, you can either just make it and then change the waist to be slightly snugger or alter the pattern down to the next size down at the waistline (ie draw lines taking it from 14 at the bust to a 12 at the waist then out again).

If in doubt and using a simple pattern, its better to err on the side of very slightly too big: you can usually take a couple of inches in and not lose the style of the dress by changing how much you take in around the zip or "pinching" some excess fabric in at the sides and sewing it to be a smooth shape.

Which pattern is it?
