Crochet Book Recommendations - anyone??

I can crochet, I was taught by my mother as a child but haven't knitted in 30+ years.

Consequently, I don't know the names of the stitches.

Does anyone know of a book that goes back to basics, is clear and which has interesting projects?

I imagine that the book I've been given would be useful if you can crochet already, as it goes through the basics and tells you how to make each stitch. As a total beginner it left me floundering, but now that I've got a (very!) vague idea about what I'm doing, it's not bad - it's called cute & easy crochet and some of the patterns are sweet, although some are truly naff. Confused But each to their own I suppose! :o

I made these gorgeous roses from it over the weekend.

My tip would be The Encyclopedia of Crochet Techniques by Jan Eaton. Very clear and easy to use as a reference book when you need to refresh your memory or learn something new

Many thanks for the book recommendations. I love the roses!

I put both books into my Amazon wishlist and finally made a decision on buy the Encyclopaedia as my first book. The cute and easy crochet is still in the wishlist and hopefully DH will take the hint!

Also, check out your local library. I found a few books in mine (and it's only a small library). Good for books which may not have lasting appeal.

For projects, I tend to use Ravelry.

They have had the cute and easy crochet book at The Book People for about 3.99 recently- check there before ordering from Amazon as they are quite good for crafty books
