So I have order some lovely cotton to make a dress for dd who will be 4 next month. But I need a pattern. Do I try to do a zip or go for an apron style? I am very new to sewing so need something recommended. Tia

I'd go for an apron type or if you like set up a temporary hotmail account and I'll send you a fab really easy PDF pattern for a dress with elasticated top and raglan sleeves.
Prudent baby has some free patterns as do other web sites so you could do a search and see what you cone up with

You could try this basic shift dress I made for my girls.

Oh I'd go for a pillowcase dress (about a million tutorials if you google) - but then I'm rubbish with zips and the like!

"Making kids clothes" by Emma Hardy is a good one with simple patterns, if you can borrow it from the library.
