Really want to make this square for wubbly's blanket but can't figure out how I'm supposed to join the first row together. Can anyone help?

How about you put the hook through the first loop and draw the wool back through and then pull the loop already there over it - like making a chain?

Lord knows - my brain froze up trying to understand the pattern!!

Ok from what I can see the White is a quarter of the four circles that make up the centre. The Mustard then makes up the final three quarters.

Is the difficulty in joining the Mustard to the White? Or how to finish off the Mustard circles at the end?

DillyTante · 25/02/2012 19:44

It's joining the initial white row to make the circle. I get the pattern but I'm just not sure how to get from where I am (top of a circle) to where I want to be (inside the circle).

Thanks for the replies! It'll be a nice pattern once I figure it out!

'Remove hook from loop, insert hook in the last stitch of the beginning chain (that is now the "head" of the first dc of the first dc group), 12 dc in the same st of the previous 3 dc.'

This is what I don't get.

Yeah, I ignored that bit. What I did was slip stiched into the top of the first 3dc's that you made at the other end of the chain. On the inside will be the tops of the 3dc's and on the outside [the working edge] will be the chain it looks a bit odd, until you start making the 12 dc's in the inside. The pencil sketch diagram shows it better, but it's not very clear.

I've just broken out my hook to see how i would do it.

Thanks for the help :)

I've just done essentially what you said I think. It seems to be missing an instruction to slip stitch.

On working further into the pattern I understand that bit now. It should read...

Remove hook from loop...first dc group), pull loop through. Then 12 dc in the same st of the previous 3 dc. Essentially it's a non bulky stitch, kinda like a slip stitch. It uses this technique more in round 3, when joining the soon-to-be half circles to the four in the middle. It's neater than a slip stitch.

A pretty square and quite easy to make up once you've done one.

It's a beautiful square Dilly - will you put a pic on your profile when you have finished?

PurplePidjin · 26/02/2012 14:13

I've done the first bit, and there's definitely a missing bit to that instruction.

I found myself with one left of my foundation chain so as in that then as to join...

Thanks for all the help. The finished product is here. Not sure I'd do it again, though it is a nice square.
