Do I need to wash a knitted toy before giving it to dc??

I've just finished a bunny for dc. It is stuffed with phoenix filling.

Usually if I make a jumper I wash it before he wears it. Do I need to wash the bunny? Or is it usually ok not to?

Also someone said something about needing to wash things to "set" the knitting - is this true?
TIA!

Err... that's a new one on me, but then I have only been knitting for 45 years... Knitting does not need setting, blocking is a different matter and that is done before you sew a garment up.

oh ok thank you - what is blocking then? And do you think is ok not to wash the bunny then - it seems clean enough just not sure as everything else tends to get washed after finishing.

blocking?

Was it the bunny from the costco set? I am just finishing one too!

Am enormously cuffed as I have only been able to knit squares before but now understand increasing and decereasing and shaping! (only taken 15 odd years....)

I just stuffed it with the stuffing that cam ein the kit - white fluffy stuff, bit tougher than cotton wool. Have no idea what it is - worrying me now.

Afraid I didn't wash the bunny I made for dd. However I am something of a lazy crafter Smile

I wouldn't wash it unless the dog had it in his mouth while you were making it. Hmm It is new yarn, new stuffing, it seems clean enough

Thanks - I won't wash it then - was a bit worried that if washed it something might go wrong - at the moment it just about sits up bit thought the stuffing might get a bit repositioned or something.

It isn't the one from a Costco kit it is the one from the knitted nursery book

but the ears on mine don't stick up very well as I used a cheaper yarn instead of Debbie Bliss.
