Butterflies in a frame, really quick to make.

Wow they are amazing!!

PattiMayor · 16/01/2012 19:38

What an absolutely lovely blog :)

jasperJohns · 16/01/2012 19:47

Really gorgeous. I want one!

DillyTante · 16/01/2012 20:06

Thank you Blush

Obviously I'm appreciating the gratuitous accolades Grin but honestly I wanted to share the idea as it is really easy to make but looks great.

Oh that's lovely, I'm tempted to do it on a large scale for my dining room... I wonder if I'd be able to find a nice enough frame?

DillyTante · 16/01/2012 21:25

The frame is from Sainsbo's (online). It's cheap and cheerful. That one is 10"x8" I think & cost around £8. I bought a few (smaller ones) from there for Xmas presents. I was pretty pleased with the heart one here which you could also do in lots of different colours. If you didn't want to use something as fine as embroidery floss I would recommend a mercerised cotton, normal yarn is slightly dull in appearence.

That's lovely... Haven't picked up my hooks for ages but you might have just inspired me to do so now. Love home made gifts...

iceandsliceplease · 16/01/2012 23:01

Wow Dilly! They're amazing! Will definitely be making these as presents for pretty much everyone I know Grin. I can so see these on the wall of my new house...

tribpot · 17/01/2012 06:10

That's gorgeous - and the frame is actually a bargainacious 7 quid! How difficult is it to do the wire to give the butterflies a shape?

CheerfulYank · 17/01/2012 06:48

They are gorgeous! Wish I could crochet!

DillyTante · 17/01/2012 18:10

Tribppt the wire is optional, I just used it for the antennae. You can just use a crochet chain for the antennae instead. The butterfly body is made by crocheting a circular shape then folding in half.

Thanks Dilly - I had thought the wings must be reinforced with wire as well, which looked super-fiddly.

It's been absolutely decades since I last did crochet. But on the list of future projects it goes!

IheartmyPanda · 17/01/2012 20:25

Like a 4 ply cotton? Any ideas where you'd get a suitable large frame?

Thank you, I have a new project now!

DillyTante · 18/01/2012 19:17

You could even use a DK cotton, just depends how big you want them. Not sure about frames, I would try eBay or Ikea for starters. Glad you like the idea though :)

Those are absolutely gorgeous! I would love to make some for my little girl's room but the link to the pattern isn't working for me. Is there any other way to access the pattern?

Thanks.

DillyTante · 18/01/2012 20:09

That any better?

Thanks for re-posting but it's still not working. Dh says it may be something to do with a privacy law in the US, and that lots of blogs are only going to be appearing for a second and then disappearing, which is what is happening.

Hopefully it will be back tomorrow as dd has seen them and is desparate to have them in her room now!

DillyTante · 18/01/2012 21:16

Hmm, I could see it. Let me know if you still can't see it tomorrow.

OP posts:
tribpot · 18/01/2012 22:25

I could see it too - would be weird if a blog apparently based in the UK was blacked out for the SOPA protest but hopefully tomorrow (and ever more) the butterflies will be flapping in cyber-space again.

sybilvimes · 19/01/2012 08:19

no, it's still not working for me (sigh) DD insisted I check immediately I turned the laptop on and is very annoyed!

If anyone could cut and paste the pattern to me in a pm I would be incredibly grateful, thanks.

sybilvimes · 19/01/2012 08:28

Actually no, its fine. I have discovered I can open the page in Firefox, just not in explorer, which is a bit weird but solves the problem.

Can't wait to get started! Thank you so much for posting this DillyTante.

tribpot · 19/01/2012 10:47

I can't open it in Explorer either!

DillyTante · 20/01/2012 09:56

If you still can't see it and want to PM me your address I can take a screen shot or save a copy of the webpage and email it to you.
