I sew and craft - what do I want for Christmas?

DP needs a list. I have a sewing machine, overlocker, glue gun all used lots. I'm probably going to ask for some more cotton as been using a lot recently. Does anyone know what I am missing and should be drooling over? What do you want for Christmas, please inspire me

Gingher scissors? Cutting mat and rotary? Craft table? Lessons in something? Gocco? Paper? Very expensive special foot for your sewing machine? Needle felting kit? I could go on...

bigbadbarry · 09/12/2011 19:49

A lovely book?

reindeesandchristmastrees · 09/12/2011 23:00

Googling Gingher scissors. I already have cutting mats - plural as have an idea to glue several (ok 4) cheap A3 mats (from homebargains at £3 a go together). My rotary cutter isn't great so there's an idea. More idease please, what do you want/what are you getting. What is it that in January I will wish I asked for and have to wait until the end of November (birthday) or Christmas next year for???

Storage boxes or bags to put all your bits.

Do you do patchwork - quilters rulers?

Pack of FQs

Books - there are dozens of them for all sorts of crafts. You can't go wrong with a book for me.

SoupDragon · 10/12/2011 13:00

Wouldn't it be nice it you could gift wrap time? [sigh]

reindeesandchristmastrees · 10/12/2011 22:44

Soupdragon - you've got it do you think he'd let me give up work to devote more time to the children crafting?

This book is what I would like: it's beautiful and useful for all my crafty lists and plans. I'd like a rotary cutter and mat too, and would love a nice selection of Liberty Lawn fabrics. And some really good yarns to knit with... god the list could be endless.

SoupDragon · 11/12/2011 18:17

Oh, it needs more time that that, Reindees. [sigh]

I think I am going to treat myself to a rotary cutter for Christmas.

reindeesandchristmastrees · 11/12/2011 19:55

I have given a list that includes
new pair of pinking shears (mine belonged to my grandma and you have to tighten up the screw every time you use them to get a good cut, and I think someone has def used them on paper Shock!
bobbin winder - my machine is really pants at winding the bobbin and I get out my old singer every so often to wind my bobbin when I get fed up of my machine
still need some more ideas as ideally would like a surprise and also nosy to find out what everyone else is after

I quite fancy a table loom...I think this will be something that I end up hunting down myself though.

Also on my list would be aromatherapy oils and candle making items.

BigBaubledBertha · 12/12/2011 09:27

Well since you ask what we are all getting and I am always up for a bit of craft talk Xmas Grin, I am getting a 28mm rotarary cutter. I have the standard patchwork and quilting 45mm one but I am and doing a City and Guilds and the tutor recommends a 28mm for accuracy so I am (hopefully) going to give it a go. Not sure I will notice much of a difference so it should be interesting.

Also I hope to get a set of procion dyes. I spent a lovely day dyeing some white cotton fabric all sorts of colours on the course and would love to do it some more and try some different techniques - I will have no complaints about not finding the right colour when I need it! This has opened up a whole new area of Amazon for exploration - there are loads of dyeing books I have never had cause to look at before and a couple have been added to the list.

And I also did a day's book binding workshop after decorating some paper for the covers - not so unrelated as you think as you sew the bindings and then the books are to be used for project presentations. That was fun too and I have asked for a book on handmade book-binding.

reindeesandchristmastrees · 12/12/2011 13:16

Just looked at the dye bigBauble - fab, where did you do the course? I love courses, I think I could be a full time course atendee!!

I am hoping for some posh scissors shears

A subscription to some fab Aussie mags (either Homespun or Handmade)

some of the books on my Amazon wish list - The Bag making bible I have been wanting for EVER!

BigBaubledBertha · 12/12/2011 13:53

I'm doing City and Guilds Design and Craft in patchwork and quilting which is once a week for 2 yrs in North Hampshire (Odiham if you know the area at all as it is only a little place). The dyeing was part of that.

The techinque was based on this book and I believe the author lives in Surrey and runs one off courses if you happen to be this way.

I am hoping for the dye starter kit to play around with. Xmas Smile

reindeesandchristmastrees · 12/12/2011 23:31

Wow I knew this thread was a good idea, dont live anywhere near Surrey but I now want that book and a starter kit of dyes!!!

If I had someone to buy me presents I'd love Moomin scissors and lots of lovely fabrics!

SoupDragon · 13/12/2011 07:34

I"m going to need a craft room.

Pleiades45 · 13/12/2011 11:16

How about a kit of some description? When I first started quilting, I asked DH to get me quilt kits for christmas and birthday. I've had great fun doing them.

RueDeWakening · 16/12/2011 13:23

Late to this, but never mind.

I'm getting a craft room :o (at least I am if the fecking builders ever finish up there) and a Sizzix BigShot too - my birthday is January so I'm asking for some dies to go with it for that if I can restrain myself from just buying them for that long

Other than that, I want some more fabric, inc some fleece, a rotary cutter and mat, one of those big thick see through rulers that ?quilters use, plus I'd like Kirsty's craft book to drool over.
