Offensive Pinterest

I am a massive Pinterest fan and I spend far too long going through boards and finding pretty stuff. However, when I went into Pinterest yesterday, I saw all these photographs of pretty graphic gory stuff which I found upsetting. I cannot work out how to ensure I never see them again. Pinterest gives you the option to like them, pin them and follow the person but not to HIDE them forever. Is this right or is there a way of doing it? I don't want to miss out on Pinterest but there's certain stuff I just don't want to see, not even in the name of art.

If you click on the pin there's a "Report Pin" link over to the right.

Nudity doesn't offend me at all. It's these arty photographs of bodies with cuts on their flesh, eyes missing and stuff. They're not even real, they've been altered, but they look realistic. Hideous. I don't wish to report them, they're incredibly popular so a lot of people like them, just not me. I just don't want to see them.

I guess maybe it's just me who finds this type of 'art' offensive. Or maybe what I find offensive is that there's no warning about the content of the pictures and they're there for me to watch, like it or not. I am interested to know what other people think; some of the photographs are in this website but please I do warn you, if you're squeamish you'll probably find them really upsetting: www.behance.net/Gallery/FakeTooFake/420567

i'd report the images to pinterest admin. the images look photoshopped but they are pretty graphic. someone on twitter mentioned the other day about the option to make certain boards on pinterest private, ie stuff you want to refer to for personal use only, i think this goes to show there is a demand for that idea.

ChinaInYourHands · 25/11/2011 18:24

Precisely my point!

I have reported one of the photographs, I can't report all of them individually because it will take ages plus I don't want to have to click on them and see them.

I really want to see the knitted nakedsuit too!!

Here you go...

Those kind of photographs are popular? Some of them are quite icky.

PinterestQueen that is utterly hilarious! I like your sense of humour!! You seriously knitted all of those????

OP posts:
PinterestQueen · 26/11/2011 16:56

No not me! I wouldn't have the patience!

I just repinned them as I thought it was funny, it got removed and I had an email notification about it. I don't really understand why it's offensive, but hey ho.

catsrus · 26/11/2011 20:05

hi China - when I clicked on your link I got a warning from the site itself about mature content, when I clicked that I didn't want to accept mature content I didn't see the images when I click yes I do - your link took me straight to the image content site not pinterest.

What did you search for on pinterest that brought the images up?

ChinaInYourHands · 26/11/2011 22:37

Hi Catsrus. That's precisely my problem. I didn't search for anything at all. They're just there for me to see when I go into Pinterest. I don't know how you could find them. The photographer is Giovanni Bortolani and if you google that name you'll probably be able to see some of his photographs. I find them repulsive.

OP posts:
catsrus · 28/11/2011 08:37

I saw them china - but the link was to the photographers page not pinterest - can you copy the link at the top of the pinterest page and we can see whether that content is blocked for us (as it should be with an adult warning on the actual main site) if someone has copied the images then they have bypassed the warnings and infringed copyright - if they have just linked to them the warnings should come up - but we need to see the pinterest page you view them on.

MmeLindor. · 28/11/2011 08:58

I would report them to Pinterest for being badly photoshopped. Euuugh.

PQ
That is hilarious and strangely disturbing.

Do you mean when you look at your stream, or the general one? ie. have they been repinned by someone you follow?

abigboydidit · 28/11/2011 09:01

Not exactly the same thing but I've been noticing a lot of "thinspiration", pro-Anorexia images which makes me feel really uncomfortable but assumed wasn't really reportable?

rockinhippy · 28/11/2011 12:31

I'm with you on thinking these images don't belong on Pinterest - the fact you have to click a disclaimer on your link as they might be deemed offensive says it all - I also agree they are doubly offensive as badly photoshoppedGrin

I still don't understand why your knitted nude suits were deleted PinterestQueenthey were funny, not in the least offensive Confused - I can only presume they were reported Hmm - my board of rude fruit, food labels, crotchet things hasn't been deleted either & repinned a few timesConfused - but having seen this lot, I can see they are not as tight with the regulations as first thought Shock

report them - I will if I find them - my 9 year old is on there gathering her Xmas wants list - if Pinterest are going to allow stuff like this it should come with a warningHmm

ImHotNoYoureHot · 28/11/2011 16:55

Call me a prude but I didn't like the knitted suits at all. For me, it's the fact that the child is touching the man's penis - it is creepy in the extreme. I know it's only a knitted penis but all the same, I don't like it.

ChinaInYourHands · 28/11/2011 18:53

I'm delighted to report that all I can see in Pinterest now is gorgeousness and beautifulness. I don't know if me reporting those photographs worked but as long as I can't see them, I'm happy. I didn't have to search for anything to see them before, they were just there as soon as I clicked on Pinterest. I guess maybe someone I follow had pinned them. I seem to be following people I didn't know I was following but hey ho.

OP posts:
ChinaInYourHands · 28/11/2011 18:54

I do get what you're saying ImHotNoYoureHot but the way I see it, it's just an innocent gesture of a child showing curiosity over an object.

OP posts:
PinterestQueen · 28/11/2011 20:20

When I was googling for the knitted naked suits image I found the background story of it being a lesbian couple wearing the suits to portray a conventional family portrait which would explain the interest in the aforementioned apendage.

I was just in awe of the time it must have taken to knit them.

I haven't seen anything that has offended me on my page yet, definitely nothing like the photos above.
