Some sewing questions: A peg pag, a not naff cushion, and something for a baby?

  1. Has anyone seen any particularly nice patterns (or even just ideas I could copy) for a peg pag? I want to make one for my mum and I want it to be really special. It is a long running joke between us and I want to turn up with something awesome.
  1. I have made a nice big quilted bag for my pregnant friend. I have some fabric left over. Am trying to think of some small little fun or useful baby related thing I could sew to match the bag. Any ideas?
  1. Since I started sewing and quilting my MiL has been massively supportive and interested. I would like to make her something. The problem is that she has very particular taste and would HATE anything naff or twee. She is Parisian and uber stylee and designer. I was thinking a cushion cover...? Can anyone help me find something a bit sophisticated and chic?

Thank you if you can help with any of these!

There's a website dedicated to all things pegbag here

Ideas for your friend: bibs, bottle cover, little drawstring bags. I'll keep thinking.

I'll have a little look around for cushions too.

That owl is perfect. I love it. Will make that and a couple of little bibs - maybe this snap bib?

But am living in the back of beyond (not UK) so am wondering what to use for crinkle material in the owl. No lovely habidashers here. Will have a google.

Lol at there being a pegbag.net - why didn't I think of that? Grin. Wonder if I can find oilcloth out here? Ooh - I think I saved an old umbrella canopy when the spokes snapped. That might work. Horrid bright colours though.

Nothing perfect for MiL. The trouble is she would love something simple like those linen cushions, but there's not much point making them iyswim - she could just buy them. I want to make something homemade with effort and l33t sewing skillz. But she won't like anything fussy. Catch 22, but I bet there is something sew-y but chic she would like. Have a vague idea of some sort of understated appliqué tree silhouette over an a-symmetrical patchwork of plain colours. Or something. Actually, I could just design that, now I come to think of it. Hmm.

With the owls, if you don't want to put something crinkly inside them, you could always go for a very textured fabric on the back.

sewmamasew had a "pillow" month a short while ago (pillow being US for cushion) there were some lovely ones - I really like teh white bird cage.

And if you spend time going through the blog - there are ideas for alomst any project. The Handmade holidays are particularily good for gifts as they list lots of tutorials under different themes.

this for MIL?

Suggest making couple of padded coathangers for MIL - very practical for people serious about clothes (French!) and difficult to find in shops.
